Hemodynamics: A discussion of arterial waveforms

This week we review temporal flow patterns of arterial waveforms. Why does a perfectly healthy popliteal artery look very different from a perfectly healthy internal carotid artery? The answer lies in the tissue requirements at the end of that vessel. Why do you have forward flow through out diastole in the aorta above the superior mesenteric artery but reversed flow below the renal arteries? Because the renal arteries require so much flow and they take it from above and from below. Watch Dr Shepherd explain specific flow patterns for abdominal arteries and why they look the way they do. Enjoy!
